I grew up reading and writing under the trees, covers, and canopy of stars (with a flashlight). The love of learning and reading and a general curiosity of the world around me was instilled early when my mom read to me and my sister daily. Because of that, Little Golden Books and Laura Ingalls Wilder will always be soft spots for me. My appetite for books gained momentum when my elementary school participated in the Book It program. Reading for pizza was definitely a no-brainer, but what I didn’t expect was just how exhilarating reading could be. The rest is history.
Middle school years were marked with Indian in the Cupboard and Choose Your Own Adventure, but by the time high school rolled around, an admiration and desire to become more acquainted with the classics started to develop, so it shouldn’t come as a surprise that when college rolled around, I chose to major in English education with the hope of being able to inspire others with the written word. After teaching English for fourteen years, it was time for a plot twist of my own! I worked toward becoming a school librarian, and last year was year one in this new role. I still couldn't be happier that I get to live in the library. The truth is, words are life for me. What I love the most about reading and being a school librarian is sharing this world with others. Words have power--power to take you places, teach you things, change the way you see your situation, and so much more. My hope is to help you find the books that do the same for you. |
